A staggering €80,000 has been raised for SVP in Waterford for WLR Christmas Appeal

This year's WLR Christmas Appeal has so far raised almost €80,000 euro in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul in Waterford and that number is expected to grow.

It's comfortably surpassed last year's tally of €55,000.

Lots of events took place over the past few weeks, from 'Red to Work', to pub quizzes, choir performances, and auctions.

All monies raised will go to assist the needy in Waterford City, Tramore, Dungarvan and West Waterford.

Appeal coordinator Róisín Ferris says she expects the total to rise even further.

"It's been a fantastic year," she says, "there's been huge support from the people of Waterford City and County and we're absolutely thrilled to be in a position to assist the St. Vincent de Paul services in the City and County in the coming year."

One fundraiser alone raised over €20,000.

"We had fantastic support from the Waterford Warriors," Róisín says, "their 24-hour row raised €22,158, so a huge thanks to Gary Walsh!"
