Tramore student wins prize at BT Young Scientist Exhibition

There was success for Waterford student, Caoimhín O’Leary, at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition in the RDS on Friday.

The second year student at Ard Scoil Na Mara in Tramore won third place in the Technology Junior Individual section for his project entitled Clearwater: Correct UV energy for safe drinking water, which looked at using Ultra-Violet light to kill bacteria and viruses in water.

This year an impressive 2,031 projects from 4,251 students across the island of Ireland were entered, with every county represented by a submission.

550 projects were chosen to go forward to the RDS - five of them from two schools in Waterford; Ard Scoil na Mara, which had four entrants and De La Salle College which had one.
