Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy has officially opened a Tramore housing scheme in County Waterford initially built by a trust 200 years ago.

The housing project for the elderly at Convent Hill was redeveloped by the Saint Vincent DePaul, the Catherine Walsh Trust and Waterford Council last year

Home to ten men and women, the dwellings were transformed over a 6 month period from cold and damp one bedroom houses to warm light filled spaces.

Michael Power, President of the Tramore Conference of SVdeP, says the houses have a long history and the lives of the residents have been transformed due to the quality of the work.

He says there is a small garden at the back and they are well insulated with air to water heating.
