Waterford Senator says trolley crisis at UHW is "year round"

Cork University Hospital is the most overcrowded in the country today, while 24 people are currently waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Waterford.

Green Party Senator Grace O'Sullivan recently told the Seanad Debate on Emergency Department waiting times that the trolley crisis is year round at UHW.

"It's not a winter crisis, it's continual," she said, "and what that needs is changes, some undoubtedly difficult."

She went on to highlight the difficulty in retaining staff, citing the example of a Waterford doctor, trained in Ireland, who was now set to buy a house in Australia, where he could be assured of "better conditions as a junior doctor."
