Waterford students at WIT awarded Department of Education and Skills silver medal
Three students from the Department of Languages Tourism and Hospitality received their Silver Medal Award from the Minister for Education and Skills at an award ceremony in Croke Park recently. The coveted Department of Education and Skills silver medal is awarded to the top young apprentices in the country.
Ms Hanna Mathe, who is from Waterford and attended Our Lady of Mercy Secondary School received her medal as winner of the 2017 Ireland Skills Culinary Arts competition. Hanna is a second year student on the BA (Hons) Culinary Arts. Read more about Hanna’s achievements here.
Ms Maria Pelonero received her medal as winner of the 2016 Ireland Skills Restaurant Service competition. Maria was a student of the Restaurant Management programme and is currently working in the Lady Helen fine dining restaurant at Mount Juliet, Kilkenny. Read more about Maria’s achievements here.
A thurd student, Ms Kathlyn Leahy, from Glendine in Kilkenny City, received her medal as winner of the 2017 Ireland Skills Restaurant Service competition. Kathlyn went on to represent Ireland at the World Skills finals in Abu Dhabi finishing with a medallion for excellence and the Gold Medal as Ireland's top competitor. Kathlyn is currently a 3rd year student on the BA(H) Hospitality Management. Read more about Kathlyn’s achievements here.
