35-year-old Terence Jameson, with an address at 3 Dunbar Road, Wicklow, was charged under the Offences Against the Person Act at a special sitting of Waterford District Court on Saturday morning.
He's due to appear before the court again tomorrow.
Gardai from Waterford travelled to Wicklow Town on Thursday last to arrest two people suspected of being involved in the assault, which happened in the John's Lane area of the City last Monday.
The second man arrested in connection with the incident was released from custody on Saturday, with a file to be prepared for the DPP.
