Waterford Councillor raises concerns following audit report.

An Independent Councillor says there was a shocking failure of governance and oversight at Waterford Council.

It's after 1.4 million euro was spent on over sixty vans without authorisation from senior management.

It was included in the local government audit report which was presented to Waterford Councillors.

Joe Conway raised the issue. He said the unauthorised purchasing of a large amount of vehicles by Council middle managment which came to 1.46 million euro of unauthorised spending.

He said it looks like a shocking failure in governence. He said this would not be tolerated in any other concern.

CEO Michael Walsh said the audiors job is to audit. He said he was the accounting officer for the organisation and he was satisfied that there is no waste of money of any consequence here.

He said there was an investigation and people were disciplined and there was no loss to the organisation.
