New measures will reduce time it takes to turn around social housing for tenants in Waterford.

New measures to reduce waiting list times for tenants will see a big improvement to the Waterford housing situation.

That's according to local Independent Councillor Joe Kelly.

Over three thousand people are currently on Waterford's housing list.

The plan will see houses become available immediately if there are no major structural flaws on the property.

Councillor Kelly says the Council will no longer have to do minor repairs on houses before re-letting them.

Meanwhile one contractor will be employed to oversee works in the Metropolitan area, with another to receive the contract for Dungarvan-Lismore and the Comeragh area.

Joe Kelly says this will speed up the tendering process for construction and will simplify housing in Waterford City and County
