Irish Mountain Rescue teams are training in the Comeraghs this weekend

Mountain rescue teams from across the country are in Waterford this weekend, carrying out a number of training exercises.

The teams are based at the Ballymacarbry Hiking and Community Centre.

PRO of the South East Mountain Rescue, Jimmy Barry, says a large scale incident will be simulated today in order to sharpen co-ordination between divisions.

"Doing it on this scale will be a great day for us," he says. "Learning. That's the main thing for this weekend."

He says they wouldn't be able to do their job without the support of the people of Waterford and the South East.

"Without the support for the local community, we wouldn't exist. It's a local response to a local need. We're always there to give a hand."
