Over €12,000 raised for Waterford charities at annual Mayor's Ball in the City

Hundreds from across all walks of Waterford life were in attendance for the gala event at the Tower Hotel.

The three charities to benefit from this years ball are Waterford Autism Social & Sports Action, Assisi House and Sesame Early Intervention Service in Dungarvan.

Mayor of Waterford City and County Pat Nugent spoke to WLR News and paid tribute to the generosity of the Waterford business community.

"There were 33 charity items up for auction," he said, "I think there were over 100 prizes donated between all the different categories and I would like to thank each and every one of the people that saw the need that these charities had to be supported."

Metropolitan Mayor Sean Reinhardt said that one of the chosen charities, Assisi House was in a difficult financial position, and that the money it's received will be significant.

"They told me that if they didn't have this coming then they definitely would have closed... Had it (the donations) gone to a bigger charity it wouldn't have been felt, but they did feel the difference and it means so much to them all."
