Waterford Councillor says it's vital people return 'Housing Needs' form

A Waterford Councillor fears people could be taken off the local authority's housing list if they don't return a form in time.

The Social Housing Needs Assessment is being sent to all applicants and must be returned to Waterford City and County Council's Housing Department by Friday May 11th.

Independent Councillor Joe Kelly says "it is absolutely vital that those waiting on the housing lists for 6, 7, 8 and more years must return their form. Failure to do so will cause them to be
removed from the list and lose the credit they have built up from being on the lists all those years. Very often people are removed from the list and drop back to the very bottom because they didn’t
return their form on time. This is very arbitrary from council, so people must be aware this is happening".

Councillor Kelly says "very often people get this notice in the post but don’t realise how important a document it is and the effects it has on their lives. Imagine the shock when people find
out later on, that they have lost their place after being on the housing list for years, without further notice, because they didn’t return the form".

He urged everyone who is on the council housing list to complete the Social Housing Needs Assessment Form without delay. "If you don’t you’ll lose your place on the housing list
and it will be difficult to regain the credit for the years you spent languishing on WCCC housing list".
