Waterford make the trip to Ennis to face Clare in Championship opener

The Waterford hurlers start their Munster championship campaign away to Clare this afternoon.

Waterford enter the cauldron of Cusack Park without four of last year's All Ireland final team. Injury keeps out Austin Gleeson and Pauric Mahony while Kieran and Shane Bennett opted out earlier in the season. Derek McGrath will be hoping to shut down the Clare attack and use his firepower off the bench in the closing 20 minutes. Clare have selected an unchanged team after their first round loss to Cork. Joint Managers Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor will be looking for a more clinical display this time around.

Waterford emerged victorious on their last visit to Ennis in the National League and another big away result would put them in the shake up for a top three finish.

Referee is Paul O'Dwyer from Carlow and throw in is at 3.30pm.

The curtain raiser sees the Waterford Minor hurlers begin their Provincial campaign. Gary Morahan's charges also face Clare who lost narrowly to Cork last weekend.

Throw-in there is at 1:30 and Tomás McCarthy will have updates throughout the game here on WLR.
