Council CEO says it's not feasible at the moment to extend the Greenway into West Waterford.

The CEO of Waterford Council has poured cold water on hopes that the Greenway could be extended into the west of the county.

Councillors passed a motion calling for a feasibility study examining whether it could be brought near to towns such as Lismore and Tallow.

But Michael Walsh says one of the key obstacles is land ownership.

He said he does not feel there is any feasibility because land ownership on the former railway has reverted completely back into the land owners and into
agricultural use.

Michael Walsh said the logistics and the cost of actually seeking to recover it in any way would be immense.

He says it could happen in future if laws around compulsory purchase orders were to change.

The CEO said he would love if the Greenway could connect through the whole of the County because it would be a marvellous project in that
context but at the moment he does not see feasibility.
