Waterford AC athlete Orla O'Connor was in action at the European under 20 Championships in Tampere in Finland this morning.
Despite not figuring in the race for medal, she put up a very creditible performance in the 10,000 metres walk final.
Orla ranked 16th going in the race and finished 14th of the 34 competitors in a personal best time of 47 minutes 55 seconds, a minute faster than her previous best and a new Irish under 20 record.
The race was won by one of the favourites Alegna Gonzales from Mexico in just under 45 minutes.
