A new state-of-the-art global manufacturing facility has been offically opened in Waterford.
American based pharmaceutical packaging giant West employs 100 people on their 44-acre campus on the Old Kilmeaden Road in the City.
Eric Green is the President and CEO of West, he says it's the most advanced facility in the industry:
"West is very pleased to celebrate the official opening of our state-of-the-art facility in Waterford, as well as the launch of Westar Select, both of which are the culmination of efforts by many to support our Company’s commitment to meeting the dynamic needs of our pharmaceutical and biotech partners."
Speaking at the event, Minister of State Mary Mitchell O’Connor T.D. said the investment reinforced Ireland’s strong track record of attracting companies in the medical devices sector. She said the Government would continue to encourage investment in regional locations such as Waterford.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of State for Training, Skills, Innovation, Research and Development, John Halligan TD said, the manufacturing site would be a tremendous asset to our Pharma and MedTech industries.
West is also a long-time supporter of the local community in which it operates. As part of the opening ceremony, West presented two local non-profit organisations with corporate donations, as well as local, employee-raised contributions that were collected as part of the Company’s grassroots employee giving programme. One of the organisations was Pieta House, who provide a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm. The other organisation, the Waterford Food Bank, was set up by a group of concerned individuals to bring about positive change for every member of every community in Waterford by eradicating food poverty.
