The company has already shut 17 unprofitable stores and confirmed plans to close at least 23 more.

Sky's City Editor Mark Kleinman says Homebase is the latest in a line of big stores to admit it's struggling: "These store closures are going to be implimented by way of an insolvency mechanism called a company voluntary arrangement (CVA). That's a controversial process that we've already seen this year deployed by retailers including Carpetright, Mothercare and New Look.
