More than 50,000 students receive CAO round one offers

More than 50,000 students receive CAO round one offers

The Registrar at Waterford Institute of Technology says college courses in construction and architecture have become more popular again.

Dr Derek O'Byrne told WLR News that "every year there are some changes, in terms of what are our popular programme. We're seeing a resurgence in areas like construction and architecture. There's always very strong interest in programmes in nursing, we see increasing demand in the ICT area as well, and that's one of the area where there's real good career opportunities."

However, he added that "you need to pick programmes and courses that you're interested in rather than the popular courses. All too often we look at courses and think that's a popular course - it must be a good course. The good course is the course that's right for you."

The CAO has issued over 73,500 Round One Offers to 50,746 applicants

Students can check to see if they have received an offer by logging on to their account using the 'My Application' facility at cao.ie.

Successful applicants will also get an offer notification through email and text message, if they have selected this option on their application form.

Paper offer notices will reach most students today; if someone has not received an offer they will get a 'Statement of Application Record' in the post.

Students have until the August 24 at 5:15pm to accept Round One offers - if they fail to accept by this date their offer will lapse.
