Whales are back around the Waterford coast

Whales are back around the Waterford coast

The first whales of the season have been spotted off Dunmore East.

A number Fin whales have returned to the Waterford coast to feed on migrating herring.

Brendan Glody of Dunmore Boat Trips says they should be sticking around until January and have also been spotted near Ballymacaw and Tramore.

He says the whales will become easier to see over the next week as the herring build up. "The first thing you usually see is the spout, depending on the weather you'll see it four miles away easily. If you came to Redhead here in Dunmore East with binoculars or a telescope, you''ll see them too. Now it takes time and patience, but if you persist you'll definitely see them."
