Gardai appealing for witnesses to fire and two robberies in Waterford

Gardai are investigating after a house in Dunmore East in County Waterford, which was the location of a fatal stabbing in July this year, was damaged by a fire late last night.

The house in Shanakiel was vacant and had recently been cleared by the Council. The rubbish left outside was set on fire at around 10.15 pm last night and the blaze spread to the house.

It was extinguished by the fire service. Damage was caused to the eaves and the front of the house.

Elsewhere, two young girls were attacked in Waterford City Centre on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old and 14-year-old were walking near the City Square shopping Centre when they were approached by another group of females at 8.00pm. They were struck, and a wallet was stolen. There were no major injuries.

A man was threatened and robbed as he was walking on Paddy Browne’s Road last night. At 11.05pm he was approached by another man who stole cash and headphones from him.

Gardai are asking the public if they have any information on any of these incidents to contact them on 051-305300.
