Waterford Council has decided against trying to purchase the site of a former nursing home in the city.
St Joseph’s House at Manor Hill was previously run by a religious institution, the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Waterford councillors had called on the local authority to investigate buying the property.
They had hoped the 5.5 acre site could be used for housing.
But council engineer Paul Johnson says the council has decided not to pursue it.
He says the site’s asking price, valued at three million euro, was too steep.
