Heavy rain causes flooding across Waterford.

Motorists are being warned to drive with extreme care in Waterford today.

Emergency services have already dealt with an overturned car on the N25 main Waterford to Dungarvan road near the Long Haul pub.

They're working to clear a flood from that area. A stop go system is in place.

There's also flooding at Carroll's Cross, on many secondary roads and there's excess surface water on all routes.

The River Clodiagh in Portlaw has burst it's banks. The road into the town is now impassible. High tide is expected at 11.30am.

A couple of homes in the area are now at risk of flooding. Emergency services are now at the scene.

Waterford Fianna Fail TD Mary Butler has thanked the community for their help so far saying "the people of Portlaw always turn out in a time of crisis".

The R680 between Portlaw and Kilmeaden remains closed until 20th December inclusive to facilitate emergency tree removal.

The Ballylaneen/Kill Rd (R681) is flooded at the river bridge and is impassable.

Storm Deirdre will bring an orange wind warning for the country from 3 o'clock this afternoon.

A Status Yellow wind and rain warning is already in place for Waterford, Cork and along the east coast.

Severe gusts could reach 130 kilometres per hour by late afternoon, while heavy rain of up to 50 millimetres is expected to fall.
