Taoiseach confident about Technological University for the South East

The Taoiseach says he's confident the Technological University for the South East can be achieved within the next year.

The application from WIT and IT Carlow still has not been submitted.

It hit another delay last month when a memorandum of understanding agreed between management at both IT's and the Teachers Union of Ireland was rejected by union members in Carlow.

Leo Varadkar was speaking at the official opening of the Enniscorthy Bypass this afternoon:

He described the project as "one that I'm particularly committed to and particularly interested in.

"I'm confident that that project can be borne within the next year.

"I know the value that universities have for regions, they enable more students to stay in the region if they want to, attract students from other parts of the country and overseas.

"They also spin off new businesses and new jobs.
