Resolution reached in cleaning dispute at University Hospital Waterford.

Resolution reached in cleaning dispute at University Hospital Waterford.

125 Cleaning staff at University Hospital Waterford who have been on strike since the 25th of February are to return to work tomorrow.

The decision was taken at a general meeting of Unite members working for Momentum which took place earlier today at the Woodlands Hotel.

Unite's Tony Kelly says talks between themselves and Momentum brokered by the Workplace relations commission have reached a resolution.

He said "those developments included issues that were central to the dispute itself in relation to our members being taken out of areas that they have worked in
for a long number of years. Momentum have now rowed back on that and are going to return those workers to their place of work. They include cleaning operatives and
waste operatives that were told in the last couple of months that they were not allowed into those areas unless they were to perform certain tasks that were not part of their duties".

University Hospital Waterford had issued a statement on Friday saying the picketing was making the delivery of patient care very challenging.

However, they added that management at Momentum are ensuring that the appropriate levels of cleaning services are maintained at the hospital.

Momentum took over the cleaning contract last September, 125 of their workers, who are members of Unite trade union, were striking over changes to their conditions without consultation.
