Blues lose unbeaten record at Tolka Park

Shelbourne 1 Waterford FC 0

Waterford FC saw their unbeaten run come to and end at Tolka Park as Sean Boyd scored the only goal of the game to secure Shelbourne's second win in ten games.

Shelbourne started the game like a freight train and forced two top drawer saves from Sam Sargeant inside the opening 8 minutes – the first to deny John Martin and then when Matty Smith latched onto a through pass he managed to get a block on the ball.

Waterford had to wait until the 40th minute for their first chance when Dean McMenamy broke through but fired into the side netting and he had another shot 3 minutes later but Conor Kearns got down to smother the effort.

It was more positive in the second half as the blues pushed forward but they couldn’t find a way through with Sargeant again producing top class saves to deny Will Jarvis and Sean Boyd and keep Waterford in the game.

However it was Shels with the breakthrough on 72 minutes when Boyd picked up a pass from Jarvis before turning and slipping the ball beyond Sargeant for his third goal in as many games.

Waterford continued to seek an equaliser but there was no way through as Shelbourne defended resolutely.
