Blues welcome Drogheda to RSC in crucial clash

Waterford welcome Drogheda United to the RSC this Thursday in their latest SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division clash.

The Blues come into Thursday's game against Drogheda United looking to bounce back from last weekend's narrow one-nil defeat away to Shelbourne FC in Tolka Park.

A Sean Boyd finish twenty minutes from time proved the difference as the league leaders picked up all three points against the Blues.

Keith Long's side have been in fine form in recent weeks, with strong wins away to Sligo Rovers (1-0) and Shamrock Rovers (3-1) that were followed up with an impressive 4-1 home win against Dundalk that saw Maleace Asamoah net his first-ever senior hat-trick with the Blues.

After a strong start to the league season to date, the Blues occupy sixth place in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division table, sitting on 22 points from their opening 16 games.

The visitors make the journey to the RSC on Thursday on the back of a dramatic 3-2 loss at home to Galway United last Friday evening. Going into injury time, the Drogs were leading by two-goals-to-one, until two goals in three minutes saw the Galwegians nick all three points in Weavers Park.

Kevin Doherty's side have picked up some imposing results so far this season, with wins over Dundalk & Sligo along with picking up a point away to Shelbourne a fortnight ago.

The Louth side travel to the RSC on Thursday sitting in ninth position in the league table on 15 points - three points ahead of bottom side Dundalk.

Barry Baggley remains on the sidelines (lower back). Ryan Burke returned to the matchday squad last week, having missed two weeks out. Kacper Skwierczynski is also back in training, after picking up a knock.

"Our supporters have been fantastic for us both home and away all season", said Blues midfielder Niall O'Keeffe. "That’s been pivotal to our positive start to the season. We know every time we step out on the pitch they’ll give us the support we need, so it’s up to us to keep giving them something to shout about in the stands."
