Waterford asked to host coffee morning for Hospice

Communities across Waterford are being asked to gather a group of people and host a coffee morning for the Waterford Hospice Movement.

The coffee morning would ideally be held on Thursday, 22nd (tomorrow) but if you are unable to host, it is asked that you donate to the Hospice to show your support for the work they do or host one on a day that does suit.

The request comes from Bewley's as this is their 30th Big Coffee Morning Social for Hospice.

The ongoing support for this campaign over the last 30 years is a testament to the generosity of our coffee morning hosts, donors, ambassadors, and our long-time sponsor Bewleys," Danette Connolly, Chairperson of Waterford Hospice Movement, said.

Funds raised locally stay local and go back into each local hospice service, helping to pay for medical and general staff, palliative care beds, home care visits, specialist equipment and new hospice builds.

The Waterford Hospice caters to o the people of Waterford County & South Kilkenny. For more information on the work they do, visit their website.

Actor Brendan Gleeson is among those calling for people to host coffee mornings and donate.

He is hoping that Ireland raise €1.5 million for hospices throughout the country.

The Hollywood star launched the 30th Bewleys Big Coffee Morning Social for Hospice which has raised over €41.5 million since its inception, joining Hospice hosts and volunteers at the iconic Bewleys café on Grafton Street.

It takes great courage for patients and families to avail of hospice services to ensure that their loved ones’ needs are met at this important time in their lives. In my experience, hospice care is life affirming and enriching,” he said.

Brendan's parents were cared for in the St. Francis Hospice in Dublin.

He says he wants the people of Waterford to "get creative" with their coffees and their events.

Together for Hospice, The National Hospice Movement represents 26 Hospice and specialist palliative home care providers supporting patients and their families nationwide.
