Waterford asked to vote for favourite bookshop

Waterford people are being invited to nominate their favourite bookshop as part of the An Post Bookshop of the Year 2022 competition.

The category is back for a second year in the An Post Irish Book Awards, which is the annual literary event that celebrates and promotes Irish writing to the widest range of readers possible.

The category was designed to acknowledge the significant role that independent and local branches of bookshops played in helping their communities during the pandemic.

Last year saw Kenny’s Bookshop in Galway crowned the overall winner.

"We really want bookshops from all over Ireland to be recognised and praised for the business acumen and creativity they implement every single day to reach and engage with different audiences," David McRedmond, CEO of An Post, said.

How to nominate

In order to submit your nomination, click the link here. You will also have the option to explain why you are nominating the bookshop.

Entries can also be made by scanning the QR code in your preferred bookshop and following the instructions. Voters will be entered into a draw to be in with the chance of winning a €100 book voucher.

Submissions will close at 5pm on September 2nd. The 12 shops with the most votes will be invited by judges to enter a written submission.

Mystery shoppers will then visit the shops as part of their judging process.

Following this, a shortlist of six shops will be finalised for the ‘An Post Bookshop of the Year.' They will be officially announced on the 20th of October.

The overall winner will receive a trophy along with a prize worth €5,000 from An Post Commerce at the Awards ceremony on November 23rd.

Other categories in the Awards include Novel of the Year, Children’s (Junior and Senior), Cookery, Crime Fiction, Popular Fiction, Non-fiction, Sports, Short Story, Poetry, Teen and Young Adult and Irish Language.
