Waterford students win top prizes in the Texaco Children's Art Competition

A Special Merit Award went to 13 year old Aoibhe Devereux from Meánscoil San Nioclás, Dún Garbhán for her work entitled Oh, Brother. Special Merit was also given to five year old Tadhg Murphy from Dunhill National School for Egg Man. The artworks are featured in the image above. Commenting on the works, Final Adjudicator Professor Declan McGonagle said the children  “demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination."

This year's overall winner was PJ Doherty from St Eunan's College in Letterkenny for his work Me and My Dad

The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is now in its 67th year. It's considered an important platform on which young artists from Waterford and counties throughout Ireland have their talents recognised.

Exhibition

From September 14th to October 2nd, Drogheda’s Highlanes Municipal Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition of the top 126 winning paintings in this year’s Competition. Admission is free.
