1,000s of images of Irish women and underage girls leaked without their consent

The Children's Minister has said there must be a zero-tolerance approach to image-based abuse.

It's after thousands of images of Irish women, including some underage girls, were leaked from a private forum.

The Assistant Garda Commissioner for Serious and Organised Crime is carrying out enquiries after the images were obtained by the Victims Alliance.

An online petition calling for revenge porn to be made a criminal offence has received over 27 thousand signatures.

CEO of the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre, Noeline Blackwell, says any woman that has been impacted needs to know that this isn't their fault.

She said: We need to have better structures and better systems to hold the people to do that kind of thing to account and bring them to court if necessary.

"But we also need everyone to call out this sort of behaviour."
