Accomodation shortage taking its toll on Spraoi

Accomodation shortage taking its toll on Spraoi

Spraoi Festival organisers say they are having difficulty finding accommodation for many of the artists coming to take part in this year's festival.

Running for more than 30 years, the festival takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

General Manager of Spraoi, Niamh Colbert, said they are fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with their accommodation provider and that while they provide the bulk of what's needed, there is still a shortfall.

"They just can't provide the normal numbers that they do." She said on Déise Today, "There is such demand for their services and they are under so much pressure that they just can't provide as much as they usually do. We have 150 artists over for Spraoi. It is a large number and a lot of accommodation to look for. It is over four days so it is tricky enough.

"We are lucky to have the partner that we have, and they are supportive of us. It will be a bit of a squeeze, but we will definitely make it work. There will be no impact on any planning of the festival. We still want all the artists to come and entertain the audience over the weekend."

Spraoi is also calling on people looking to get involved in this years celebrations."Our festival volunteers are 16 and over. They can contact us directly on our Facebook, Twitter, or our Instagram. We are always happy to have new volunteers."
