Incidence rates continue to rise across County Waterford

The incidence rate of Covid-19 has risen in every part of Waterford except for Lismore in the past week.

1 in every 56 people in Portlaw / Kilmacthomas contracted the virus in the fortnight up to November 22nd.

The incidence rate in the area, 1,787.4 per 100,000 people - is the tenth highest in Ireland and the highest in Waterford for the first time.

306 cases leave a rise of 34% on the previous fortnight.

The largest rise in cases has occurred in Tramore / Waterford City West where figures have ascended by 39%. 275 cases were recorded in the past two weeks, up 77, to give an incidence rate of 1,229.2. That is however below the then national average of 1,268.4.

Three areas in Waterford are above the national average and three below.

Dungarvan has the second highest incidence rate in the county. Cases have risen by 20 in the past fortnight up to 321, and the incidence rate stands at 1,566.1.

Waterford City South has had an 11% increase to 323 cases, and the incidence rate in the area is 1,437.1.

Cases rose 2% in Waterford City East, which is below the national average. 265 cases there give an incidence of 1,152.8.

In stark contrast to the rest of the county, cases have fallen significantly in Lismore which is among the ten lowest rates in Ireland. 89 cases were recorded in the West Waterford town which is a fall of 27% on the previous 14 days. The incidence rate is 829.9.

Waterford has the sixth highest incidence rate in the country, with Westmeath having the highest and Wicklow the lowest.

The local electoral area with the highest rate in Ireland is Drogheda Urban in Louth at 2,234.6, while the lowest is Belmullet in Mayo at 468.3.

The Department of Health confirmed 1,673 cases in Waterford in the past two weeks.
