Investigations underway following Dunmore Road fire

A technical examination will be carried out today after a vacant building went up in flames on the Dunmore Road yesterday.

Gardaí in Waterford city are investigating the cause of the fire which broke out at around 5.30pm yesterday evening.

The incident happened between the Circle K garage and the Sycamores estate.

Tony Murphy, Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Waterford Fire Station was among those who dealt with the blaze.

"We had units who attended from Waterford City, Tramore and we had a unit in from Kilkenny to assist with high-reach access.

"There was also a risk of Abestos on the roof, so as a precaution we wore breathing apparatus and facemask coverings as well," he said.

A section of the Dunmore Road remained closed last night but has since re-opened.
