Garda investigating the death of Ashling Murphy in Offaly last Wednesday have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder.
The male is now detained in Tullamore Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time.
The 23 year old primary school teacher died at the scene of the attack along the canal bank at Cappincur, Tullamore at approximately 4pm on Wednesday January 12th. She had been out jogging along the popular route.
There's been a huge outpouring of grief following the death of the talented musician, whose funeral was held this morning at St Brigid's Church, Mountbolus, County Offaly.
Dozens of vigils were held countrywide in honour of Ashling, including 10 in Waterford City and County.
