Post mortems to be carried out on the bodies of young siblings killed in Dublin

Post mortems will be carried out today on the bodies of two young siblings killed during a violent incident at their family home in Dublin.

8-year-old twins, Chelsea and Christy Cawley, were stabbed to death along with their 18-year-old sister, Lisa Cash, at their home on Rossfield Avenue in Tallaght , just after midnight on Sunday.

The post mortem on Lisa was completed last night.

The siblings' 14-year-old brother managed to escape but was seriously injured and is still being treated in hospital.

Local Fianna Fáil TD, John Lahart, says he has visited the scene and the picture of the twins is heartbreaking:

"I was at the scene myself, along with other public representatives on Sunday afternoon. I met with relatives, a young aunt and cousins, they were laying flowers - not at the home yet because that's still sealed off and is a crime scene.

"There was a picture there actually, that's being used in media at the moment of the twins on, I think, their Communion Day and you'd want a heart of stone really not to have been moved by it."

A man aged in his 20's who was known to all of the victims is now in custody at Tallaght Garda Station.

Deputy Lahart says the local community is numb with shock:

"Some of them witnessed some of the events and what we know at this stage is that the first responders, who were uniformed Gardaí, were met with a violent, frenzied and traumatic event.

"And they were supported then subsequently by armed detectives and the special support unit but obviously, armed force wasn't necessary."
