A pro-life campaigner has called on pro-choice groups to condemn the destruction of a billboard in County Waterford at the weekend.

Lee Walsh says the billboard was put up 12 days ago in Kilmeaden and he has accused those who destroyed it of attacking free speech and democracy.

He says this is the second time this has happened. At the same location in January a billboard with the image of a young boy with Down Syndrome was destroyed.

He says in Dungarvan last week, some posters were illegally removed from poles and found destroyed nearby.

Lee Walsh says all the incidents are being investigated by gardai.

He wants pro choice groups and the media to condemn this type of action.

He says he has been canvassing in Waterford for the last few years and the biggest problem they have come up against, is that people do not seem to care about the issue and are not interested.

He says from their own tally, people who are interested, 70 - 30 in Waterford are pro-life
