Two arrested after robbery at Waterford seafood business

Two men have been arrested after a robbery at a seafood business in the Airport Business Park in Waterford.

WLR News understands the pair were arrested after being discovered on the premises at Mayo Seafood at approximately half past 5 yesterday evening.

Around €30,000 worth of shellfish was stolen from there over the last weekend.

The two men appeared before a special sitting of Naas District Court in Kildare this afternoon but will be returned to Waterford District Court at a later date.

They were questioned in relation to a number of thefts that have occurred at the airport warehouses in the last few months, with the most recent happening sometime between Friday the 12th and Saturday the 13th.

“It’s a substantial loss for the company," owner, Ronan Forde, told WLR News, "A massive loss. This could close my business down. It’s been a hard few days. It’s just a dreadful experience all round.”

Directions will be sought from the Director of Public Prosecutions and Gardaí say there may be further charges.
