Waterford Affordable Housing scheme applications now open

Waterford Affordable Housing scheme applications now open

Applications are now open for the first 117 homes on the Affordable Housing scheme in Waterford.

The two schemes at Deerpark and Summerfields in the city are the first developer-owned sites of this kind in the country.

Those with combined incomes of between €56,000 and €81,000 are now being invited to apply via the council's website.

People who were locked out of the housing market previously will now be able to purchase their own home.

That's according to Fine Gael's party spokesperson on housing, John Cummins.

He has described the news as "fantastic" and says this is a significant step.

Senator Cummins says there's a strong pipeline now with the construction of more affordable houses already underway at Mountneil.

"It's important that we continue on our work, we don't rest on our laurels and we continue to deliver affordable purchase homes for a whole cohort of people," Senator Cummins said.

There are also proposals being worked on for sites in Tramore and Dungarvan.

To apply for the scheme visit the 'affordable housing' section of the Council's website.

25 three bedroom houses are available at Deerpark and 24 four bedroom and 68 three bedroom homes are on offer in Summerfield.

The properties will become available at the end of the year.

The deadline for applications are Tuesday, October 18th at 5:30pm.
