The shortlist for the 2023 Oireachtas Media Awards was announced today (12th September 2023) by An tOireachtas. A total of twelve (12) awards will be presented this year. The judging panel will decide the winners of all the categories except the Rising Star Category. This award is determined by public vote and voting lines will open on Friday, 15th September 2023. The recipient of the Oireachtas Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced at the end of October 2023.
The Oireachtas Media Awards celebrate achievement and excellence in the Irish language media sector. The awards are presented annually to recognise and honour outstanding contributions by presenters, producers, journalists, columnists, radio and television programme makers and others within the sector over the past twelve months.
WLR'S Mollaí Gough is shortlisted for her programme Abair Amach É. This is Mollaí's second nomination for awards in recent weeks. She has also been shortlisted for a special feature (Abair Amach É Mollai Gough- Alzheimer's Special - Craoltóireacht le Gaeilge) in which Mollaí tells the story of her journey with her grandmother through her Alzheimer's diagnosis.
Speaking after the announcement, she says she is delighted.
"It's completely surreal. I have only worked with WLR for 11 months. I am overwhelmed and delighted to be representing Waterford.
"My dad's family are all from An Rinn and my granny used to tell me my first word was préachán which is crow in Irish pointing at the sky.
"I knew always that I would work with the language in some way or form, but having a radio show in Irish on WLR and the listenership being so high, it just fills me with joy..
"I didn't think that this time last year I would be also nominated for an IMRO and the Oireachtas Media Awards."
