Are you offended by stereotyping of Irish people as drinkers with unintelligible accents?

Or do you think it's innocent...or maybe even affectionate?!

In a week that saw the Oscars in the headlines, one of the stories that generated much comment was a sketch on 'Saturday Night Live' featuring actors posing as Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson.

The hosts of the show introduced the actors posing as the Banshees of Inisherin stars.

However, neither could be understood due to their accents and the entertainment show subsequently posted the piece online with one of the hosts commenting: "Wow! They haven't even started drinking yet."

There was a lot of negative reaction to the sketch, with many commenting that it was an offensive, recurrent stereotyping of Irish people that needed to stop.

However, speaking on Deise Today this morning (Tuesday) Irish Daily Mail columnist Brenda Power had a different view.

She believes that, at worst, the sketch was insensitive due to the fact that Colin Farrell has spoken about his struggles with alcohol.

But she also said that until we stop bringing every single state visitor to the Guinness Storehouse, we're the ones doing the stereotyping!
