Members of the Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club, which is in existence more than 80 years, are currently in a battle to save their facility.

They're trying to stop the sale of certain parts of the club land to a Dublin-based businessman, fearing it will likely result in the club ceasing to be controlled by its members.

The club had a previous debt with one of the major Irish banks which it claims to have made a deal with to pay.

However, it says this debt was later sold - without the club's knowledge - to a consortium led by Everyday Finance DAC and affiliates of Cerberus Capital Management, who have now proposed selling part of the land assets of the club to an external third party.

The club says it has raised the money need to match the sale price expectations of the loan holders.

But the loan holders, in turn, have claimed to have gone 'sale agreed' to sell certain parts of the land to the businessman.

The 18-hole golf course is located 3km from Carrick town and two members' meetings have been held recently about the situation.

On this morning's (Tuesday's) 'Deise Today', Damien spoke to Roy Buchanan and Tony Musiol of Carrick-on-Suir Golf Club about their current fears for the future of the club should a sale of lands proceed.
