Fire units in Tramore are believed to have attended up to eight fires yesterday.

Some people were asked to evacuate their homes for safety reasons.

A fire took place in scrubland near Elm Park while there was also a fire in the vicinity of Holy Cross Church.

There was another fire in the Somerville area.

Meanwhile, fire crews are continuing to battle a blaze in the Comeragh Mountains.

The fire began yesterday and there are fears that a lot of native flora and fauna has been irreversibly damaged.

People in the vicinity of the mountains are being asked to keep their windows closed.

Waterford Chief Fire Officer Niall Curtin says its been a busy 24 hours - which began with a callout to a serious road traffic accident in Kinsalebeg.
