On Thursday's Deise Today, Damien was joined by Dr Ed Walsh, the founding president of the University of Limerick.
Dr Walsh told Damien that Waterford should continue to push for a University of Waterford, as every major city in Ireland bar Waterford has its own exclusive university.
He believes that the South East Technological University should continue to serve Kilkenny, Carlow and Wexford.
Dr Walsh has been a longstanding advocate for Waterford's case to have a university of its own.
