Edward Lynch, one of the organisers of the Immrama Festival joined Damien this morning to talk about the death of West Waterford travel writer Dervla Murphy.

The Lismore native died at the age of 90, having made a huge impact on the literary world over her lifetime.

She wrote 25 books, in which she documented her travels around the world.

Her first book Full Tilt: Ireland to India with a Bicycle was published in 1965. It documents her six month cycling trip around Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and over the Himalayas into Pakistan and India.

Speaking to Damien, Edward Lynch said that at the age of 10, Dervla's grandfather gave her a bicycle and a map of the world. While pushing the bike up a hill in Lismore, she said; "If I could push this bike further I could get to India."
