A major fundraising event is taking place on November 26 in Carrick-on-Suir to support a 38-year-old local man who suffered severe spinal injuries in a road traffic accident on the main road to Clonmel last July.

Popular postman Ryan O'Dwyer was left paralysed from the chest down after the devastating crash which occurred when he was driving home from work on July 11.

Ryan was airlifted to Cork University Hospital where he was put in an induced coma and underwent two major brain operations.

Thankfully, he is recovering well from his brain injuries but will be confined to a wheelchair going forward because of the devastating spinal injuries he suffered.

Married just six years to wife Ali, he is the only son of Helen and Sean O'Dwyer, whom are all trying to deal with the nightmare of Ryan's injuries and support him as much as possible.

A committee has been set up to raise money to aid Ryan's recovery, and help finance a necessary re-modelling of his home, including a 'GoFundMe' (https://www.gofundme.com/f/ryan-o-dwyer) which has so far raised 63,000 of a 100,000 target.

There's also a soccer blitz in Rathgormack on November 26 and later that evening, a special fundraising benefit night - which tickets are now on sale for -  in The Carraig Hotel.

On this morning's (Wednesday's) Deise Today, Damien was joined in studio by Dan Lynch to talk about Ryan's story and the events coming up.

Dan is a committee member for 'Ryan O'Dwyer's Road to Recovery' and also a long-time family friend of the O'Dwyer family.
