A debate among four Waterford TDs and Senator John Cummins took place last night at Coach House Coffee in Kilmacthomas.

It was hosted by Damien and discussed a variety of topics, including the new Direct Provision Centre in Lismore.

Local TDs Minister Mary Butler, David Cullinane, Marc O'Cathasaigh, Matt  Shanahan and Senator John Cummins all took part.

Fianna Fáil's Minister Butler revealed had not been informed by the department that the building was set to be a Direct Provision Centre as opposed to be a hotel.

She says that she was "surprised" to first learn of the news on WLR.

Meanwhile, Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane said he understands the Lismore local's concerns about the hotel being used in this manner.

Fine Gael Senator John Cummins, said he agreed with the two aforementioned politicians.

David Cullinane believes he wouldn't be doing himself justice if he wasn't doing something to help those fleeing war.

He added that we have international obligations that we have to meet and therefore decisions are made quickly.

Independent TD, Matt Shanahan, acknowledged that planning has not taken place as it should, but said he does have sympathy for all those in Lismore.
