Joe Cawley, Race Director of Waterford Viking Marathon, shared all the details of the event with Damien this morning.

The marathon is taking place on Sunday for the tenth year.

Joe believes that Covid actually helped the marathon because people became more active during the pandemic. He said people are fitter and mentally stronger.

The race

Runners will be leaving the starting line at 9am, and those in wheelchairs or walking will be starting at 8:30.

There will be a bag drop in Bolton Street and number queries can be answered at the Tower Hotel at 7:30 on the morning of the race.

There are currently 2,100 entries. 400 of those are for the full marathon, between 900 and 1,000 are for the half and the remaining will be completing the quarter marathon.

There will be a medical tent at the finish line for anyone who might feel unwell.

Joe thanked all the "unsung heroes" who helped with the organistaion of the marathon.
