Andrew and Terry Quinn, Waterford Animal Welfare

Andrew and Terry Quinn of Waterford Animal Welfare joined Maria for a chat on The Saturday Café recently. We've spoken to Andrew Quinn of Waterford Animal Welfare many times on WLR - he's even a previous winner of our Waterford Hero award. He has a well deserved reputation for being someone who is always there to help an animal in distress if he possibly can be. For a long time he responded to as many calls as he could, while still holding down a job as a Firefighter.

You'd have to wonder how the man ever got any sleep!

Now the sight of the Waterford Animal Welfare van is a fairly familiar one in Waterford, and when you see it, you just know Andrew and his team are on their way to another animal that needs them, or are heading back to base with another neglected or injured case.

On his most recent visit to The Saturday Café, Andrew brought along his wife, Terry. The couple only got married last November and to say they have a chemistry is an understatement - what a double act! Terry is no stranger to Waterford Animal Welfare as it played a part in how they met, as you'll hear in the interview.

Andrew and Terry also spoke about the challenges Covid19 has brought to Waterford Animal Welfare as fundraising was restricted. Andrew is quick to acknowledge the work done by his team in helping to make sure the Charity can continue to be there for animals that need it - their shop on the Quay in Waterford City plays a big part in that.

If ever a couple were made for each other, it's Andrew & Terry! Andrew even gave a rare public 'performance' of his Judge impression, Judge being a puppet that used to feature on that Irish TV classic Wanderly Wagon - Judge was a dog of course.

Terry is still bit of a Judge fan and you can hear all about the time she met him.

Have a listen!
