Blues ease to victory over Cobh

Waterford FC completed the quadruple over a poor Cobh Ramblers side that struggled to make any impact at another packed RSC.

The Blues were never troubled throughout the opening period of the game with Paul Martin a mere spectator for most of the half.

Niall O Keeffe gave notice of Waterford's intentions when hit an excellent volley from a defensive clearance after five minutes but the ball was wide of the upright.

A minute later, Phoenix Patterson’s cross from the left was met by Raul Uche but his header was off target.

Waterford's passing game was in full flow and Uche delivered an excellent low ball across the face of the goal on eleven minutes but there was nobody there to get a touch.

The deadlock was broken on 13 minutes with some wonderful passing play on the right between Timi Sobowale and Roland Idowu who got into the penalty area and found Uche who had plenty of time to pick his spot.

Waterford continued their relentless pursuit of a second but it didn’t materialise until ten minutes after the restart when Phoenix Patterson scored his 15th league goal of the season with another superb free kick to the top corner from 25 yards.

They added a third on 78 minutes when Wassim Aouachria, who only came on 12 minutes earlier beat Paul Hunt at the second attempt after the Cobh netminder saved his first effort.

Waterford did concede on 83 minutes when Danny O Connell got behind the Blues defence and fired past Paul Martin but that was as much as they could muster in the 90 minutes.
