Big cup final weekend in store in Waterford

Big cup final weekend in store in Waterford

A big weekend of cup action on the local soccer front will begin on Saturday afternoon with an Ozier Park double header with the Philip O’Keeffe Memorial Division 3 Cup Final and the Jimmy O’Neill Memorial Division 2 Cup Final.

Carrick United will be looking for a double success in the 3rd division final after winning the league title and after their impressive 3-0 win over St. Paul’s in the semi-final, they’ll be up against a Waterford Crystal side that recorded a 2-1 win over Bohemians in their semi clash. Kick-off is 2pm.

It will be followed by the playing of the 2nd division cup final where 2A side St. Paul’s, who proved too strong for Ballyduff in the semi-final, take on a Portlaw 2B side that have shocked a couple of clubs to reach this decider with a 3-2 win over Tramore Rangers in their semi-final. Kick-off is 5pm.

SUPER SUNDAY

Sunday will be another big occasion for Villa FC as they play two finals on the one day. They will make the trip to Turners Cross, the scene of their FAI Junior Cup final success, to take on Douglas Hall in the McCarthy Insurance Munster Youth Cup Final.

After their thrilling win in the semi-final against Ringmahon Rangers, Conor Coad will be hoping that he can master another final on the big stage in the space of seven days against a fancied Douglas Hall side, who beat Rangers in the final of the FAI Centenary Youth Cup a couple of weeks back. Kick-off on Leeside is 2pm.

It will be a rush back to Waterford for Coad and co as the 2022 Jimmy Searson Memorial Premier Cup Final will see the Connor’s Park club go in search of a treble success. After their midweek semi-final win over Ballinroad, Villa will take on Ferrybank, who were impressive in their semi-final win over Tramore.  The Premier League and FAI Junior Cup champions have won the two league meetings of the sides this season, but Richard Gaffney’s men to be hoping to spoil the treble party. Kick-off at Ozier Park is 7.30pm.
