FAI Junior Cup 1st Round: Villa victorious; Carrick crash out

FAI Junior Cup champions Villa began their title defence with victory away to Waterford Crystal in the first round on Sunday.

Regix Madika and Conor Kilgannon were on target for Conor Coad's side in a 2-0 win.

Elsewhere, last year's quarter-finalists Hibernians booked their place in the second round in style by putting five past Dungarvan United.

David Breen's charges were 5-1 winners at Kilrush Park.

It proved a good weekend for Tramore also - their Premier team seeing off Bohemians by 4 goals to 2, while their 1A side were 4-0 winners at home to St. Paul's.

Red Star A and Red Star B were both knocked out, with the latter going down 3-1 at home to Dunmore East, as the A side were beaten 2-1 by Ballyduff.

Portlaw crushed St. Saviours 5-1, while Ferrybank knocked 8 past Southend in an 8-2 away win.

Ballinroad narrowly saw off Park Rangers by a goal to nil as Conor McDermott struck in extra time, while Seaview Celtic saw off Clashmore by the same scoreline.

Carrick's poor start to the season also continued in the cup, as they were beaten 2-1 at home by De La Salle.
